    What to Expect

Adult class meets on Tuesdays at 5:45-7:15pm and Saturdays 3:45-5:15pm. Guests should arrive 15 minutes early. We do not offer a children’s class at this time.

Wear comfortable clothes that allow freedom of movement, and bring a bottle of water. Be prepared to go barefoot and to remove jewelry and watches (or leave them at home).

We meet at at Windfall Dancers Inc.:

1101 N. Dunn St., Bloomington, Indiana

Park in the lot on Saturdays, and class is upstairs. On Tuesdays, if the lot is full, park on the other side of Dunn St., or next to the building on 14th St, and class is usually downstairs.

There is no long-term contract, but regular attendance is expected while you train with us. Our monthly fee is reasonable.

    How We Practice

    Just show up.

Courtesy and protocol are central to what we do. We encourage presence and awareness: this frees the mind to focus on Taekwondo, and helps us to perceive our environment. This is about the practice of martial arts, about respecting each other, and about safety. We bow to each other. We listen to the instructor and respond with “Yes Ma’am!” or “Yes Sir!”.

If you have a concern about safety, raise it immediately.

Class at RMA often follows this pattern:

    • Bow in and meditation
    • Warmup
    • Technique practice: hand techniques and kicks as a group, or alternating with a partner who holds a target
    • Forms: scripted sets of techniques
    • Work with a partner:
      • Low-contact “one-steps” with a prescribed “attack”, which the defender blocks then counterattacks free-form, typically with low or no contact
      • Prescribed attack and counter-attack sequences with low contact
      • Escapes and locks
    • Bow out

Optionally, for purple belts and above who have safety equipment, brief sparring once a month: medium-contact
